Ever keen to sample the delights of domestic baseball here in Britain, I headed across the Mersey from my Wirral home to watch the Liverpool Trojans last weekend. It was a fairly overcast day, with a brisk wind punctuating play, but the familiar sights and sounds of baseball brought cheer to all present.
The Trojans, founded in 1946, are one of the oldest and most historic baseball teams in the country, while Hull, a persistent hotbed for the game in northern England, arrived at Bootle Stadium fresh from winning the BBF Cup.
Accordingly, an afternoon doubleheader was played out in entertaining fashion, with Liverpool winning the first game, 17-7, and later completing the sweep with a tense 7-6 triumph.
Here are a few photographs of my day watching baseball on Merseyside.
